Internet Explorer 8 alpha

July 04, 2007

As every single webdeveloper that doesn’t work for M$, I hate internet explorer and the fact that doesn’t follow standards and rendering changes a lot between versions. Well, here are a few news regarding version 8:

  • Office 2007-like interface (SUCKS!)
  • Full support for RSS, AJAX e CSS (Is this new?)
  • Microformats ( Thank god something new and useful! But wait… microformats or some proprietary Microformat$? With M$ we never know…)
  • Customizable Interface (Let’s see what this means… Skins maybe?)
  • w3c compliance (This is great news, and will be very nice if everyone had to upgrade to IE8, even if they’re not original copies!)

Well, just a “let’s keep up with firefox features” new version. Microsoft is going down more and more…

I like the new user interface of Office 2007, it's rather pleasant to work with but the IE7 interface is so freaking annoying... If IE8 actually takes pointers from Office 2007 I'll be impressed but if it looks anything like that screenshot I think I'll just go and jump of a bridge thank you very much...
The source is clearly not to be trusted. Really sounds like a fake story...
Apart from the screenshots, everything was confirmed by Chris Wilson, IE platform architect at MIX'07.

If Office 2007 has this new menu system, seems logical that MS will apply the same design for their other products. Doesn't look fake to me...
My reaction was pretty much the same as Fábio's, but after finding the ars technica article and the Chris Wilson's post on IE Blog... It sounds like the real thing.

My only wishes for IE8? Microformat support (do it right, so that the big majority of users understand what they are and how to use them - we all win} and xhtml full support, with the right mime type.
